The performance is constant, both in public and private spaces. We take on roles—sometimes consciously, sometimes unconsciously—and stage ourselves depending on the context. Who are we in our professional roles, on vacation, at the dinner table, or in the titles we carry? In the exhibition AKT, Tove Eklund explores these shifting identities and the play we perform for ourselves and others.
Through collage and mixed media, Eklund creates works that capture people and places in a fleeting moment. Using materials tailored to the subject—pastel, acrylic, and watercolor—she depicts scenes where something seems to be happening both within and beyond the image. A hostess at a dinner party, a film set, a sailor, a wedding—each piece hints at a story that continues beyond the frame.
Tove Eklund, born in 1980 in Gothenburg and now based in Stockholm, has always had art as a part of her life. After studying at Hovedskous Painting School from 2000 to 2002, with a focus on sculpture, she worked in illustration and, in recent years, has deepened her own artistic practice. In 2024, she participated in Liljevalchs Spring Salon with three works, and AKT is her second solo exhibition at WAY gallery Sthlm.
"I want to depict people and environments that suggest something beyond the image. A glance turned away, a sense that something is happening—both inside and outside the depicted scene. I like when a piece takes on a life of its own and doesn’t merely reflect my own idea." – Tove Eklund
WAY gallery Sthlm presents AKT, an exhibition exploring our staged lives, the roles we play, and the boundary between reality and performance.
