WAY gallery Sthlm presents Mixade verkligheter (Mixed realities), by and with Benjamin Uggla, an exhibition where the boundary between truth and imagination dissolves, giving shape to new images of our contemporary moment. Through sculptures, collages, and reliefs, Uggla opens portals to parallel realities, where the familiar is turned upside down and the unexpected emerges with equal parts playfulness and precision.
In a time when reality is constantly filtered, mixed, and distorted, Benjamin Uggla invites us into a space where the everyday and the surreal coexist without hierarchy. MMixade verkligheter (Mixed realities) is not just an exhibition – it is a collection of visual impressions of our present, captured with a keen eye for both the absurd and the tender. Here, humor and gravity meet, as the seemingly banal is elevated into sculptural poetry.
Uggla’s works often begin in a sketchbook filled with observations from cafés in Stockholm and other parts of the world, memories from past travels, or notes inspired by newspaper articles and books. In Mixed Realities, the viewer encounters everything from figures glued to computer screens to sculptural interpretations of balance, movement, and stillness. Also present is his newly introduced “Bumble Guy” – a bumblebee-inspired figure reading, boxing, or sitting neutrally – alongside a multitude of other characters and objects that together form a snapshot of our time.
Working in sculpture, collage, and relief, Uggla demonstrates his range – from abstract stacked forms and tall table sculptures arranged in stop-motion-like sequences, to humorous and surreal scenarios that feel at once familiar and strange.
