Tove Blanck

Tove Blanck’s work carries traces of play and storytelling, always open to shifting interpretations. Much of the inspiration comes from vintage comic strips, drawn to their bold and universal aesthetic. By translating illustration onto a three dimensional canvas, Blanck adds a sense of movement that requires the viewer to walk around the object to take in the full image. Strong and vibrant colours bring a comic sensibility, contrasted by deep black shadows that create a dramatic effect.

Working primarily with stoneware clay, Blanck constructs visual layers using engobe. The crisp and graphic visual language is achieved through a distinctive stencil technique. Her practice has been recognized with grants from Bengt Julins Stiftelse, Carl Malmstens Hantverksstipendie and Estrid Ericsons Stiftelse, and she is represented through membership in blås & knåda as well as collaborations with Designtorget. In 2023 she presented the solo exhibition 'Sista dansen' at WAY gallery in Stockholm, exploring themes of movement, contrast and narrative through ceramic forms.

Tove Blanck (b. 1993) lives and works in Norberg, Sweden. She studied ceramics at Capellagården on Öland from 2018 to 2020, and previously attended Chalmers University of Technology for architecture and Nyckelviksskolan for art and craft. Since spring 2021 she has run a small ceramic studio on Kungsholmen and is co founder of Hantverkstan 10.
