Frida Johansson

Frida Johansson’s practice is grounded in realistic painting, where nature, people and environments are depicted as fragments of ongoing stories. Each work connects to the next, forming a visual narrative that reflects on everyday moments. Often placing her figures in empty and silent surroundings, turned away from the viewer, she explores themes of rootlessness, melancholy and femininity. Painting becomes a way of processing events and understanding her surroundings, a method for making visible the character of our contemporary times.

Her works have been exhibited across Sweden, including at Liljevalchs, Fotografiska and Halland Art Museum, and are represented in the collections of Halland Art Museum and Uppsala County. She has participated in residencies around Europe and has been awarded numerous scholarships over the years.

Frida Johansson (b. 1987 in Falkenberg, Sweden) lives and works in Stockholm. She studied at Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design and at the Academy Valand between 2007 and 2013.
