A bank vault is built to protect what is considered valuable. It separates the precious from the ordinary and creates a physical boundary around ideas of wealth, ownership and security.

This summer, Galleri Valvet opens inside the former bank vault beneath Njud in Skanör. Presented in collaboration with WAY gallery, the exhibition takes the oyster as its central symbol. Like the vault itself, the oyster is a protective structure: a hard exterior that shelters something fragile within.

The exhibition asks a simple question: what is truly worth preserving?

Through sculpture, installation and material-based works, the participating artists explore value beyond financial systems. Bodies, memories, labour, vulnerability, care and transformation emerge as alternative forms of wealth. Rather than offering fixed answers, the exhibition invites visitors to consider how value is assigned, protected and imagined.

The vault provides more than a setting. Its architecture carries its own history of safeguarding assets and defining importance. When contemporary artworks enter this space, new tensions arise between what can be owned and what cannot, between permanence and fragility, between protection and isolation.

The oyster becomes a metaphor for these questions. Not as a container for a pearl, but as a structure in its own right: resilient, layered and shaped over time by its environment.

Ostronet brings together works that reflect on the systems through which we measure worth, while opening space for other possibilities. Inside the vault, value is no longer taken for granted. It is examined, questioned and reimagined.
