Melina Badejo is a Swedish Nigerian artist based in Stockholm whose practice centers on abstract painting with yarn as her primary medium. Her art draws inspiration from multiple sources, integrating her Nigerian heritage with her upbringing in Sweden. By blending these influences in her use of colors and forms, she creates works with a distinct and personal character.
Color combinations and carefully chosen materials are central to Badejo’s process, where tactile qualities are as important as visual ones. She seeks to create works that engage the viewer’s emotions and provide a sensory experience, reflecting on themes such as security, curiosity, desire and enjoyment. Her practice not only explores aesthetics but also acts as a way of processing her own experiences and cultural heritage.
Melina Badejo (b. 1990) lives and works in Stockholm. She graduated with a BA in Textile from Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design in 2023.
